Summer-planted strawberry acreage in California has reached a new record of 4,655 hectares for 2025 — nearly 27% of total strawberry acreage. Overall, the acreage devoted to strawberry production in 2025 has increased by 1.3%, reaching 17,350 hectares.
This upward trend in fall-producing acreage reflects strong and growing consumer demand for strawberries from September to November. However, rising production costs continue to challenge growers. Between 2019 and 2023, the cost to produce a flat of strawberries increased by 9.4% annually, while FOB prices only grew by 3.6% per year.
