The organic fresh produce sector in the United States continues to follow a solid growth trajectory, outpacing the conventional market for the third consecutive year. 


According to Circana OmniMarket Integrated Fresh data for the 52 weeks ending 22 March 2026, retail sales of organic fresh produce exceeded $12 billion, increasing by 3.5% in value and 4.3% in volume, with sales reaching approximately 1.9 million tonnes.By contrast, conventional fresh produce recorded more modest growth: +2% in value ($85.5 billion) and +1.6% in volume (approximately 21.8 million tonnes).

Within this landscape, outlined in the report "The Packer Organic Produce Market Guide 2026", organic fresh fruit played a leading role, generating a total value of $5.4 billion (+8% year on year) and volumes of approximately 1.04 million tonnes (+7.1%). Leading the entire fresh produce sector by value is the berries category, which ranks first overall, with retail sales of $2.3 billion (+10.7%).

Blueberries: the market leader grows by 12%

Organic blueberries remain the leading product by value within the entire berries category. Thanks to their convenience and suitability for snacking, blueberries recorded double-digit growth in both value (+12%) and volume (>13%). Among the emerging trends highlighted by the Fresh Trends 2026 survey is strong demand for larger sizes: 45% of consumers who purchased fresh blueberries in the previous 12 months said they preferred "jumbo" options.

Organic strawberries are the category's leading product in terms of total sales volume, ranking among the sector leaders alongside blueberries and raspberries. Following the slight 1% decline recorded in 2024, the segment rebounded strongly, with sales value increasing by almost 10% to more than $780 million and volumes rising by 14%. Organic products currently account for more than 14% of total strawberry sales in the United States.

Organic penetration within the overall raspberry category is particularly high, exceeding 22%.

The category has demonstrated considerable resilience despite a high average retail price of close to $22/kg. Organic products account for 21.11% of total retail blackberry sales.
