Growing presence of Italian raspberries in Italian wholesale markets

Italian season for raspberries sold in Italian wholesale markets, where all sites now offer domestic origin. More and more blackberries also carry the Italian flag, although Mexican imports are still present. Presence from Spain and Morocco, but also some Italian lots are being registered for blueberries. Red currants are priced above 25 euros, with both Chilean and Italian products.

Raspberries from Italy and Portugal at 16/18 euros

The presence of Italian raspberries in wholesale fruit and vegetable markets is increasing. In Bologna, they are priced the same as those from Portugal: 17/20 euros, with an average of 18. In Florence, the average price is 17 euros for Italian raspberries versus 16 for Portuguese ones. In Naples, Italian raspberries are priced at 18 euros, as in Rimini, while Portuguese are at 16. In Treviso, both are at 16 euros.

Blueberries: Spain and Morocco go head-to-head

Morocco is increasingly investing in fruit and vegetables and berries, a trend also seen in fruit and vegetable markets where Moroccan products are well represented. A real challenge to Spain. And Italy? Italian blueberries are quoted at 17 euros in Padua, a rise of 6 euros from the previous price. Spanish blueberries gain 4 euros to reach 20 euros. In Bologna, both Moroccan and Spanish products are sold at 18 euros, while in Florence Spanish blueberries drop significantly to 12/15 euros. Prices are around 16 euros in Naples, Rimini, and Treviso markets.

Italian blackberries from 16 to 20 euros per kilo

Mexican blackberries are priced slightly higher than Italian ones. However, in Bologna, both are quoted at the same price: 20 euros per kilo on average. In Florence, Italian blackberries are at 16 euros, and Mexican ones at 18. In Rimini, Central American berries sell for 20 euros, and in Cesena, the price rises to 22 euros.

Italian and Chilean red currants: up to 30 euros

Red currants remain expensive. Prices often approach 30 euros, and in Rimini, where hotels are open and tourism is high, prices reach up to 33 euros. In Bologna, Chilean currants are priced at 25 euros, Italian ones at 26. In Cesena, prices rise to 30. In Florence, Chilean are at 27 and Italian at 26. In Treviso, the price list shows 27 euros for Italian, Chilean, and even Dutch products.

Beyond Lucanian, Campanian, and Sicilian strawberries: origins also in Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Tuscany, Sardinia

Regional production is expanding, and prices are dropping. According to Bmti: "Lucanian production, known for its superior quality, maintains a price around 4.50 euros per kilo, while other productions—Campanian, Calabrian, and Sicilian—have dropped to 3.50 euros." In some markets, Basilicata's product exceeds 5 euros, as in Bologna.

The Inspire variety also fetches over 4 euros. In Bologna, prices range from 4 to 5 euros, as in Cesena and Rimini. In Treviso, prices reach 4.50 euros. In Verona's market, prices drop to 3.50. Local production registers 5 euros in Florence for Tuscan strawberries. In Padua, strawberries from Emilia-Romagna reach 4.30 euros per kilo, while those from Veneto go up to 5 euros. Sardinian strawberries in Cagliari exceed 5 euros per kilo. Local products are always rewarded. In Rome's market, Favetta strawberries grown in Terracina are appreciated and reach up to 3.50 euros per kilo.
