From January to November 2023, Morocco supplied a total of 1,400 tonnes of fresh blueberries to South-East Asia (excluding Vietnam). This represents an increase of almost 50 per cent compared to the full year 2022.

Considerable damage to farmers was caused by deformation and deterioration of metal structures (15% of tunnels), tearing of plastic (80% of plots), fruit damage (loss of up to 20% of raspberry production) as well as uprooting of plants.

The most recent trade data show that between 97 and 98% of Mexican strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry production remains in North America. A maximum of 3% goes to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, especially Japan, Hong Kong and South-East Asia.

Morocco is no longer just one of the emerging countries for the cultivation and supply of blueberries worldwide, but has long been a major global player. Morocco continues to mix the international blueberry markets and is also skilfully diversifying its sales regions.

The Round Table discussion will focus on the issues that are of most interest to Moroccan producers and entrepreneurs, such as the different aspects related to soilless management systems; post-harvest efficiency and loss reduction among other issues.
