In 2025, a total of 45,700 tonnes of bush berries were harvested in Germany across approximately 9,000 hectares of cultivated area. Production was 23.5% higher than the previous year, despite a slight 2% reduction in acreage.

According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the significant increase was mainly driven by more favourable weather conditions.

2025 performance

The 2024 season had in fact been marked by late frosts and drought. Compared with the average of the past six years, the 2025 harvest rose by 13.3%. It represents the highest volume recorded since data collection began in 2012.

In 2025, cultivated blueberries once again confirmed their position as the leading species among bush berries. Across 3,450 hectares, accounting for around 38% of the total area dedicated to the category, 17,300 tonnes were harvested, up 14.4% compared with 2024.

In second place were red and white currants with 9,300 tonnes (+37.3%). Raspberry production declined by 11.1% to 6,200 tonnes, while blackcurrants recorded strong growth of 107.4%, reaching 5,900 tonnes.

Protected cultivation

Greenhouse production and cultivation under accessible protective covers continued to expand. In 2025, the area dedicated to these techniques increased by 2.6%, reaching 590 hectares.

However, output under these conditions declined slightly by 2.8%, totalling just under 6,500 tonnes. In particular, raspberries represent the dominant crop in protected environments, accounting for 77.4% of this acreage.

With 450 hectares, the area of protected raspberries remained virtually unchanged compared with 2024. In 2025, organic bush berry production accounted for nearly one third of the total cultivated area. Around 6,000 tonnes of organic fruit were produced across 2,900 hectares, equal to 13% of total output.

Organic data 2025

Compared with 2024, organic volumes increased by 43.5%, despite a slight contraction in acreage. The leading organic crop was aronia with 870 hectares, followed by cultivated blueberries with 590 hectares.

The highest production volume within the organic segment was recorded for cultivated blueberries, with over 1,800 tonnes.
