The Spanish Observatory of Prices and Markets, in its weekly report on soft fruit production in the tenth week of 2020 (2 to 8 March), showed that the price of strawberries was maintained, but the price of blueberries fell despite being at the start of the season.
BLUEBERRY
According to the Observatory, the trend recorded since week 7 continues, in relation to the evolution of previous campaigns. Therefore, the price of the last week is estimated at € 5.76/kg.
"This decrease is due to the wide range of blueberries from different sources in the international market, to which the Spanish offer has been added," they say.
In terms of marketing, February saw around three times the volume of blueberry sold compared to February last year (and 150% more than February 2018).
Although, despite the growth in supply, in this first week of March the season is still in its infancy and it is estimated that about 4% of the total expected volume has been sold, judging by the data recorded in the four previous seasons.
RASPBERRY
In the case of raspberry, the price at source is falling again this week, this time by almost 6%.
Similarly, after analysing the quotations for this crop, the Observatory estimates that the average price in the field is € 6.06/kg, a price which continues to be higher than the level reached in the same week of the previous marketing year, as it has been since the fourth week.
In particular, and until this last week, the Council calculated that "may be marketed in the order of 36% of the total production forecast for the whole marketing year, as can be deduced from the distribution curve of marketed production obtained as an average for the four previous seasons.
