Fair prices and short supply chain: growers from 4 countries join the Senda berry platform

Senda, the international platform for the production and marketing of berries, based in Huelva, has welcomed new international operators, mainly from Spain, Morocco, Mexico and Namibia, attracted by a marketing model without intermediaries and with fair prices.

The keys to this growth lie in the possibility of jointly and globally marketing strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries more efficiently, guaranteeing fair prices for the harvests and increasing farmers’ profitability, Senda stated in a press release.

These principles are part of the operational model that Senda has defined as “The Berry Movement”.

Some of the countries where this philosophy has gained the most strength are Mexico, Morocco, Namibia and Spain.

The Berry Movement Project

The heads of the producing companies that have joined Senda agree in highlighting the platform’s ability to demonstrate that farmers can join forces in a global project capable of consolidating a solid berry supply in supermarkets and ensuring fruit 365 days a year.

In this context, Pedro de la Torre, of H52 Mexico; Mohamed Gaimar and Said El Gareh, co-founders of Mondial Berry in Morocco; Michael Rodenburg, head of Namibia Berries; and Roberto Arnal, head of blueberry production at Plus Berries, emphasized the commercial advantages brought by the Senda project, which ensures a direct sales channel, eliminating intermediaries and commissions.

This allows a significant portion of the profits from cultivation to remain in the hands of farmers, thus increasing their profitability.

On this point, Pedro de la Torre explained that “after the first campaign in Mexico, Senda has managed to guarantee farmers more attractive returns, greater sales stability and, above all, solid support and guidance.”

Voices from the producers

For his part, Arnal highlighted “Senda’s ability to provide up-to-date and highly valuable information to farmers through regular meetings; with this working method, we feel fully integrated into the project.”

The same idea was echoed by Michael Rodenburg, head of Namibia Berries, who stated: “Senda’s activity not only ensures better economic returns for farmers, but also gives us a leading role in the international value chain.”

Mohamed Gaimar stressed that “being part of Senda has allowed us to participate in commercial decision-making. We know firsthand what is being done with our fruit and we have managed to reduce sales costs, resulting in increased profitability for producers.”

In turn, Said El Gareh pointed out that Senda offers producers greater visibility in the market and participation in decision-making processes.
