Onubafruit, Fresón de Palos and Cuna de Platero lead the Spanish Berries Top 3

92

Each season is a world of its own and, speaking of the 23/24 season, it was marked by a reduction in the supply of strawberries and raspberries, due to a decrease in cultivated areas caused by uncertainty regarding water availability for irrigation — a situation very different from the current one.

This led to a 3.4% drop in production compared to the previous season, with a total volume of 371,713 tonnes. In contrast, blueberry production saw a 5.5% increase.

Production trends

This data is reflected in our Top 15 berries 2025 ranking, which reviews the previous season (23/24), and in which only three companies increased their volumes (Cuna de Platero, Algaida, and Berryworld Iberia), five maintained them (Onubafruit, Surexport, Unica, Surberry, and Alfrut), while four recorded a drop (Fresón de Palos, Fruta de Andalucía, Las Palmeritas, and Plusberries).

On a global level, there was a 20% drop in production from one Top 15 to the next, likely not only due to the production decline but also to the exit of two major producers such as Arofa and Grufesa (who did not provide data this year, but together totaled 81,000 tonnes last year). Frutas Esther is also missing, though with a smaller volume (4,500 tonnes in the 2024 Top).

New entries and outlook

The production figures of Berrynest (ninth position), Perla Huelva, and Tasemar (in the final positions) thus enter the Top ranking.

We will see how the abundant rainfall occurring this season will impact production and, consequently, the results for next year.

This data is based on information provided by the companies contacted; companies not listed either did not respond or chose not to participate.
