Lidl GB has announced a £500mn commitment to source British berries over the next five years. The retailer says the move will provide UK growers with greater financial security at a time of rising production costs and unpredictable weather, helping them invest in new technologies, expand production and strengthen long-term resilience.
The announcement follows strong growth in Lidl’s British berry sales. British blueberry sales have risen by more than 200% in three years, while British blackberry sales are up almost 93%.
According to British Berry Growers chairman Nick Marston, Lidl’s British berry volumes increased from around 11,500 tonnes in 2023 to more than 15,700 tonnes in 2025, giving the retailer around 12.6% of British berry tonnage sold through the association’s members.
