Mexico 's raspberry production has grown 128 times over the past 20 years and is now the world's second largest producer of the fruit, according to data provided by Latinometrics.
The company said that although the berries are not an indispensable part of the Mexican diet, they have recently begun to be consumed in winter after being touted for their health benefits and in part due to the country's growing industry.
He added that farmers in states such as Jalisco, Baja California and Michoacán have taken advantage of the country's weather conditions to harvest raspberries in spring, summer and fall.
They also plan their crops for the winter, when it is impossible for many producers to compete and thus prices are at their highest.
Latinometrics points out that thanks to the same seasonal advantage, low production costs and the border it shares with the United States, Mexico has managed to position itself as the world's second largest producer, behind only Russia.
TheAneberries, which brings together the country's red berry producers, explained that the total market for the berries will reach 584,000 tons this year, or 3 billion euros.
If this happens, berries will become Mexico's third most important food export, after beer and avocados, surpassing even tequila and mezcal combined.
