The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC), in collaboration with VentureFuel, has announced the launch of the Blueberry Boost Accelerator – a new program aimed at discovering and supporting emerging startups capable of redefining the future of blueberries, according to VentureFuel.

The nine-week hybrid accelerator program connects high-revenue companies that use blueberries as a key ingredient with leaders from the blueberry, food, and consumer goods industries.

The goal is to accelerate growth through expert mentorship, tailored marketing support, and strategic consulting.

Support, visibility, and prizes

Participants will receive professional branding materials such as video commercials and sales tools, gain media exposure, and connect with buyers, investors, and innovation leaders.

Startups will refine their pitch with 1:1 support and present their products at the Blueberry Convention, taking place October 8–10 in Seattle.

The winner will receive $20,000 (approx. €18,600), while the runner-up will be awarded $10,000 (approx. €9,300).

To qualify, companies must have a safe and functional product prototype tested under USDA supervision.

Vision and product categories

“The USHBC’s vision is to make blueberries the world’s favorite fruit by driving demand through innovation, partnerships, and research,” said Kasey Cronquist, President of USHBC.

“Blueberries offer endless possibilities – from health and nutrition to snacks, culinary creativity, functional ingredients, and beyond. This program is designed to uncover the next generation of ideas that will help make blueberries a part of consumers’ everyday lives.”

The Blueberry Boost Accelerator is seeking CPG startups (consumer packaged goods) in various categories, including but not limited to: snacks, frozen foods, beverages (including alcoholic), sweets, personal care (such as skincare and cosmetics), wellness and performance products, ready-to-eat meals, sauces and condiments, and pet products.

Innovation and future goals

“Blueberries are loved for their taste and health benefits, but there is still huge untapped potential in formats, uses, and applications,” said Fred Schonenberg, founder and CEO of VentureFuel.

“Our accelerator connects the top startups working with blueberries to industry leaders and commercial opportunities, accelerating innovation and unlocking new growth possibilities for the category.”

The Blueberry Boost Accelerator highlights USHBC’s commitment to taking a leadership role in the food system through consumer-driven innovation.

By investing in new ideas, technologies, and entrepreneurship, the USHBC continues to bring stakeholders together to strengthen the global competitiveness of the sector.
