Press release

While strawberry production continues to consolidate its role, Terre della Luce is steadily expanding its production horizons: together with its members, the organization is consistently engaged in the cultivation of berries such as blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, adopting modern cultivation techniques such as soilless growing systems.

At present, the total area dedicated to berries amounts to 13 hectares.

Growing consumption

“Berries require a high level of specialization from producers; they are fruits that perfectly meet the needs of those segments of the domestic market that are increasingly focused on quality and sustainability,” explained Carmela Suriano, president of OP Terre della Luce.

Suriano then added: “Consumption trends in Italy confirm that berries are experiencing a phase of strong growth. Since 2021, overall consumption has increased by more than 50%, while blueberries are recording growth rates of around 20%.

Berries have recorded a +52% increase in volume in the first two months of the year, a clear sign of recovery and growing interest from Italian consumers.

Outlook for blueberries

In terms of prospects, data for blueberries are particularly positive: according to a 2025 survey, the Italian blueberry market is expected to grow by around 10% per year until 2030, with market value potentially rising from the current €166 million to approximately €290 million.

“We are convinced that berries represent the future of Italian fruit and vegetables,” says Palma Albino, commercial manager at Terre della Luce. “With soilless cultivation, hydroponics and the most advanced techniques, we can offer excellent products that are sustainable and fully aligned with current market demands: quality, convenience and healthfulness.”

Innovation and sustainability

The adoption of soilless cultivation systems allows for more precise resource control, water savings, reduced use of chemical fertilizers, and a greater ability to respond to climate change. The resulting fruit, characterized by high organoleptic quality, fits perfectly into modern distribution channels and the growing demand for “healthy snacks” and fresh-cut products.

Within this context, Terre della Luce positions itself as a dynamic and innovative organization, capable of anticipating market trends and enhancing high value-added production, helping to strengthen the excellence of the “made in Southern Italy” brand also in the berry sector.
