Record Increase in Summer-Planted Strawberry Acreage in California

2024 marks a new record for the acreage planted in summer with 11,209 acres (about 4,537 hectares), continuing the decade-long trend of increasing summer strawberry transplants harvested in the fall.

Since 2012, the percentage of acreage transplanted in summer has grown from 10% to 27% of California's total strawberry production, ensuring a stronger supply to meet the rising consumer demand in the fall.

Growth in Organic Strawberry Sales

More and more households are buying organic strawberries. Over the past year, the strawberry category has seen an increase of 1.9 million new organic strawberry buyers compared to the previous year.

Data shows that 29% of strawberry buyers now purchase organic strawberries.

Weekly Volume Estimates for California Strawberries

Weekly volume estimates for California strawberries show variability, with potential volumes ranging between 5.5 to 6 million trays per week.

There may be decreases compared to last year and the three-year average between August 17 and September 7. However, excellent quality and ample supply for promotions in August and September are expected.
