Oppy has announced its collaboration with G&M Farms to introduce two exclusive and proprietary blueberry varieties, Pink Cosmo and Hunkaberry.
Both varieties were developed by Professor Dr. Scott NeSmith of the University of Georgia and cultivated by G&M Farms in Fresno County, California.
"It has been a collaborative effort to develop these exceptionally unique products that will differentiate the category," said Tim Crane, Oppy’s category manager for blueberries. "Our marketing team had a lot of fun developing these brands, creating unique packaging that conveys a sense of fun and mystery to stimulate trial — making them stand out in the fruit aisle."
The effervescent Pink Cosmo
Pink Cosmo was described as offering "a blend of classic blueberry taste with bright floral notes, peachy sweetness, and a hint of fizz."
The variety has a pink hue and will make its seasonal debut at the end of May.
Hunkaberry is characterized by an "exceptionally large" size, over 18 mm, and is harvested from early May through June.
Sweet 18% brix
"We couldn't be more thrilled about the opportunity to showcase two incredible products to our retail partners alongside Oppy," said Greg Willems, owner of G&M Farms. "This collaboration represents years of experimentation and a long-standing relationship between our teams."
Both varieties offer a brix level above 18, with Pink Cosmo available in 4.4 oz (125 g) clamshells and Hunkaberry in 9.8 oz (277 g) packages.
"This announcement represents a significant advancement in Oppy's berry program, further enriching its diverse portfolio with offerings that cater to the evolving preferences of consumers worldwide," Oppy stated.
