The survey was conducted on 26/06/2024 in the area of Bologna (Italy) on 16 shops owned by 16 retailers belonging to 11 retailing groups.
The full berry range of the following retailers has been surveyed: Aldi, Carrefour Express, Carrefour Market, Conad Superstore, COOP, Despar, Esselunga, Eurospar, Eurospin, IN's, Ipercoop, Lidl, PAM, PAM Local, Sigma.
Assortment
In the berry category, the stores visited had between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 references, with an average of 3.8 references per store.
In the 15 stores visited where a berry assortment was present:
- 87% have Raspberries in assortment
- 93% have Blueberries in assortment
- 87% have Blackberries in assortment
- 33% have Red Currants in assortment
- 27% have Tris (mixed berries) in assortment
Range
Among the stores with berries in assortment:
- 7% have a single reference for sale.
- 27% have 2 or 3 references for sale.
- 67% have 4 or more references for sale.
Quality
The groups with the best quality were found to be Aldi, Esselunga, Eurospin, and Sigma.
Sales Prices
- Raspberries (16 observations): min. €12.4/kg, max. €27.92/kg, average €19.68/kg.
- Blueberries (23 observations): min. €9.98/kg, max. €23.9/kg, average €15.47/kg.
- Blackberries (16 observations): min. €7.84/kg, max. €27.92/kg, average €17.88/kg.
- Red Currants (5 observations): min. €15.92/kg, max. €29.44/kg, average €23.76/kg.
- Tris (5 observations): min. €16.45/kg, max. €21.93/kg, average €19.61/kg.

Brands
The visited stores had berries from a total of 24 brands. The brand with the highest average prices in the category was Vital. The brand with the lowest average prices for blueberries was Fogliati, followed by Scandola.
Packaging
