Strawberries with Tajin and blackberries with cheese: Driscoll’s savory trend in Berlin

33

At Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Driscoll’s spotlighted a new way to enjoy berries: beyond sweet dishes and into savoury moments throughout the day.

At the company’s stand, “Berryista” Jana Lehman hosted a pop-up tasting experience built around flavour pairings tailored to different eating occasions.

The goal: inspire consumers to rethink strawberries, blueberries and blackberries as versatile ingredients.

Flavour pairings in focus

Among the concepts presented was a savoury breakfast bagel with cream cheese, pickled ginger and blueberries, positioned as an option that may help reduce blood sugar spikes.

For snacking, strawberries dipped in water and rolled in Tajin spice — a seasoning currently trending on TikTok — offered a tangy, mouth-tingling alternative.

Meanwhile, blackberries paired with a wedge of goat’s cheese on a cocktail stick showcased a berry-led canapé idea.

Expanding consumption occasions

“We are inspiring people to eat berries at different times of the day,” said Lehman.

According to marketing manager Isla Haslam, flavour pairings are central to Driscoll’s messaging this year, as the company explores how and when consumers choose to eat berries.

Expanding usage occasions could open new growth opportunities for the entire berry category.
