365,000 tons of blueberries exports are expected in the 2023 season. This is an increase of about 25 percent over the previous year.
As reported by eurofruit in reference to FreshFruit Peru, this growth is due to new acreage coming into production in the second half of the year, increased exports in the first quarter, and social unrest that caused the postponement of the harvest and thus greater availability of fruit for shipment in the coming weeks.
However, the increase in volume could not be absorbed in terms of value due to falling international prices. The company expects total sales to reach $1.7 billion in 2023, up 21 percent from the previous year. Peru exported a total of 292,000 tons of blueberries worth $1.405 billion.
