Italian Berry Magazine no. 9: growing trend in the berry market

119

The new edition of Italian Berry Magazine is now available, offering an essential overview of the trends shaping the berry market in Italy and Europe.

Italian household consumption is on a sharp rise: it has doubled over the past five years, reaching €232 million in 2024. This growth fuels optimism among industry players, with blueberries expected to lead the expansion, increasing from 12,600 tons in 2024 to about 22,800 tons by 2030, with a CAGR of 10%.

The new edition also reveals the ideal consumer profiles identified by CNR-IBE: crunchy and juicy blueberries, sweet and juicy raspberries, and sweet and aromatic strawberries. Despite this demand, Italian Berry’s Retail Monitor highlights that 89% of berries in large-scale retail are still standard, with only 11% being premium, organic, or zero-residue. This contrasts with consumer demand for premium strawberries, whose average price rose by 8.3% in 2024, a segment still poorly satisfied by the current offer.

With articles, analyses, and interviews, Italian Berry Magazine provides knowledge and insights to support the development of this growing category. The new edition is available online and, as communicated, will be distributed in print at Fruit Attraction in Madrid from September 30 to October 2.
