Blueberries return to the centre of technical attention in Piedmont with the meeting scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026 at 3:30 p.m. at the Horticultural Experimental Centre of Fondazione Agrion, in Via Albertasse 16, Boves, in the province of Cuneo. The event will offer operators across the supply chain the opportunity to observe directly in the field the varieties currently ripening or close to harvest.
The technical meeting takes place at a decisive stage of the season, when cultivar evaluation cannot be limited to agronomic data alone but must also be compared with the actual condition of the plants, fruit quality, ripening period, field performance and the commercial potential of the different varietal proposals.
For growers, technicians and operators interested in the blueberry sector, the visit therefore represents a concrete opportunity to assess the progress of the season and compare the performance of the varieties present in the experimental plots.
Varietal trials and assessment of the season
The meeting programme includes three main moments: analysis of cultivated areas, overview of the season and field visit to the varietal trial plots. These are particularly relevant topics in a context where blueberries continue to require increasingly precise technical choices, both in terms of varietal selection and agronomic management.
The possibility of observing cultivars during the ripening phase makes it possible to directly assess several key aspects: harvest period, fruit size, firmness, uniformity, colour, productivity and adaptation to local soil and climate conditions. In blueberries, these elements have a decisive impact on the profitability of the planting and on the ability to meet market requirements.
A useful exchange to guide growers’ choices
In Piedmont, and more generally in the suitable growing areas of Northern Italy, blueberries are a crop that requires constant updating. International competitive pressure, the evolution of demand and climate variability make it increasingly important to have reliable technical information on the varieties available.
The visit to Agrion’s experimental plots will allow participants to discuss field data and observations, reducing the distance between experimentation and farm-level decisions. For growers, this type of event is particularly useful when planning new plantings, evaluating varietal replacements or verifying the consistency between cultivar, growing environment and commercial window.
The speakers and the project context
The meeting will be led by Cristiano Carli and Roberto Giordano of Fondazione Agrion. The activity is carried out as part of the “GREEN Coir ortoFrut” project, funded by FEASR – CSR 2023/2027 funds from the Piedmont Region, intervention SRH05 – Demonstration actions for the agricultural sector, call 1/2023.
The event is also valid for the recognition of professional training credits for members of the College of Agricultural Technicians and Graduate Agricultural Technicians of Cuneo.
Appointment in Boves on 2 July
The “Blueberry” technical meeting will take place on Thursday, 2 July 2026 at 3:30 p.m. at the Horticultural Experimental Centre – Fondazione Agrion, in Via Albertasse 16, 12012 Boves (CN).
For the blueberry supply chain, the event represents an opportunity for technical discussion in the field, useful for assessing the current season and observing varieties closely at a crucial stage of the production cycle.
