During the Italian Berry retail monitor survey held in Padua on 21 August 2023, the products on offer were generally of good visual quality, despite the fact that many production batches indicated on the label were 1-2 weeks old before the date of the survey.
The survey covered 20 shops of 20 brands belonging to 14 large retail groups.
The assortments of the shops of the following brands were surveyed: Aldi, Alì, Alìper, Conad City, Conad Superstore, Coop, Eurospar, Eurospin, Famila, iN's, Iper Spar, Iperlando, Lidl, MD, Pam, Prix, Rossetto, Spak, Spazio Conad, Super A&O.
High average prices were found for most of the blueberries on offer. The current promotions are, however, at generally high prices.
Raspberries, often absent from the shelves, are on sale at high prices: the average price for a 125g is Eur 2.69, with peaks of Eur 3.98.
Blackberries are on sale at generally low prices (average below Eur 2.00, with lows below Eur 1.50).

In the small fruit category in the shops visited, there were between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 7 references, with an average of 3.9 references per shop.
In the 20 shops visited where an assortment of small fruit was present:

100% has blueberries in the assortment
65% has in assortment Blackberries
40% has in assortment Redcurrants
30% has in assortment Tris
RANGE WIDTH
5% of the outlets with small fruit in the assortment have only one reference on sale.
35% of the outlets with small fruit in the assortment have 2 or 3 references on sale.
60% of the outlets with small fruit in the assortment have 4 or more references on sale.
QUALITY
The groups with the best quality were Aldi, Alì Supermarkets, Conad, F.lli Lando, Gruppo Vega, Lidl, MD, Prix, Rossetto, Selex.

Raspberries (19 detections): min. € 15,12/kg, max. € 31,84/kg, average € 20,62/kg.
Blueberries (36 detections): min. € 8,58/kg, max. € 19,92/kg, average € 14,33/kg.
