In 2026, two promotional days in Germany will once again put local strawberries and blueberries exactly where they belong: in the spotlight and in consumers’ shopping baskets. German Strawberry Day will take place on 24 May, while German Blueberry Day will be held on 7 July, according to Netzwerk der Spargel- und Beerenverbände e.V., the network of asparagus and berry growers’ associations.
When the berry season reaches full swing, every stimulus to consumption becomes important. In 2026, Netzwerk der Spargel- und Beerenverbände e.V. will therefore once again focus on two nationwide promotional days, with the aim of strengthening market presence, increasing visibility, enhancing product value and supporting demand.
What appears to be a light and engaging campaign is, in fact, based on a clear strategy. The promotional days bring together and coordinate initiatives across the entire commercial supply chain, supporting growers, direct sales and retailers in clearly positioning regional products. At the same time, they highlight what often remains behind the scenes: the work of growers, the quality of local products and the value of short supply chains.
From weekly markets and farm shops to supermarkets, numerous partners across Germany will take part with creative initiatives, tastings and customised activities, all sharing one goal: bringing people closer to the products.
Strawberries: familiar, loved, essential
The strawberry remains the emotional symbol of the start of the season and, at the same time, a key product for generating footfall in retail outlets. For this reason, German Strawberry Day will be further developed in 2026.
Through easily accessible initiatives, creative consumption ideas and authentic content linked to production, regional food is made more tangible and closer to consumers: not simply as a trend, but as a natural part of a conscious lifestyle. Here too, the focus will be on formats capable of offering guidance while also encouraging consumers to buy regional products, make more conscious choices and recognise quality that can be perceived in the taste.
Blueberries: small, strong, in demand
Following the success of last year’s debut, in 2026 the blueberry once again confirms its role as a modern and highly appreciated fruit among local crops. It represents a lifestyle that combines taste, health and aesthetics.
The crop is considered one of the most dynamic in the berry segment, supported by growing demand and a strong affinity with younger target groups. The campaign will therefore focus on digital formats and continuous dialogue with the community through the @deutschlandbeere channels. To support purchasing decisions at the point of sale, the platform will also provide information on origin, cultivation and quality standards.
Making conscious consumption visible
At the heart of both promotional days is a clear message: choosing local berries means making a conscious choice. A choice in favour of freshness, transparency and sustainable agriculture.
Regional production, in fact, does not only mean shorter supply chains. It also represents fair working conditions, high quality standards and responsible use of natural resources. These are aspects that are becoming increasingly important for consumers and that the campaigns aim to bring to the fore. In this way, the initiatives help not only to differentiate local products from imported ones, but also to support value-based purchasing decisions.
Practical tools for businesses
The implementation of the campaigns combines strategic vision with creative variety. From high-impact promotional materials for points of sale to social media content and locally customisable initiatives, the activities are designed to generate both visibility and proximity to consumers.
The aim is to actively involve businesses and provide them with concrete tools to present their products in an authentic, modern, accessible and effective way.
Working together for greater visibility
“Our local berries stand for quality, variety and the future,” says Fred Eickhorst, managing director of Netzwerk der Spargel- und Beerenverbände e.V. “The promotional days make these strengths visible at the very moment when they are most decisive for the market and invite consumers to experience regional agriculture consciously.”
He adds: “The higher the level of participation, the greater the success will be. Through strong industry commitment and close cooperation with retailers, we can stimulate demand in a lasting way.”
