Initially the company will plant 300 hectares of blueberries, with the goal of reaching 1,000 hectares for all categories of berries in the coming years.

Chilean company Agroberries will invest 40 million euros to expand its agricultural business in Morocco. The company said the new venture will support its fast-growing European marketing platform, complementing its existing offerings for UK and EU customers.

Agroberries, one of the world's largest berry producers, supplies a broad base of retail customers through a combination of its own farming operations, spanning more than 2,500 hectares globally, and an extensive network of third-party growers in all berry categories.

300 HECTARES OF BLUEBERRIES STARTING IN 2023

The first phase of the Moroccan strategy involves planting about 300 hectares of blueberries in three different regions, for a total investment of 40 million euros. Planting has begun and will continue until 2023. In the coming years, the company plans to further expand its network of growers through licensing its proprietary varieties, with the goal of reaching a total of about 1,000 hectares in all categories of berries.

Jorge Varela, co-founder and CEO of Agroberries, commented, "Our investment in Morocco is a natural next step in our global expansion plan as a leading berry grower and marketer. This move leverages our deep agronomic expertise, partnership approach and will help us continue to provide our European customers year-round with the highest quality berries."
