In Trento (Italy) good quality and many promotions in the large-scale retail trade

The shelves in Trento (Italy) are well-stocked, with good quality even for late-season Italian products. Blueberries mostly come from Italy and Poland, raspberries from Italy and Portugal, and blackberries from Italy. There are few brands, prices are **medium to low** with many promotions, especially on blueberries.

The latest survey of the Italian Berry Retail Monitor was conducted on Today, July 31, 2024in the urban area of Trento, covering 18 stores of 18 brands belonging to 12 groups of organized large-scale distribution. In detail: Aldi, Conad City, Conad Margherita, Coop, Despar, Eurospar, Eurospesa, Eurospin, Famiglia Cooperativa, iperPoli, Lidl, MD, MiniPoli, Naturasì, Orvea, Pam, Poli, Prix.

Assortment

In the small fruits category, the visited stores had between one and eight items, with an average of 3.5 items per store. In the 18 stores visited, 67% had raspberries in stock and 100% had blueberries; 56% had blackberries; 28% had red currants, and 6% had the Tris mix.

Product Range

22% of stores with small fruits had only one item for sale; 22% had two or three items for sale, while the remaining 56% had four or more items for sale.

Quality

Quality is defined by the health of the product, measured in terms of: absence of significant defects; healthy but not ideal condition (not fresh, wilted, shriveled, dull, without bloom); presence of damaged berries and juice; presence of spoiled and moldy fruits. The groups with the best quality were found to be Dado (Gruppo Eurospesa), Eurospin, Gruppo Pam, Naturasì.

Selling Prices

  • Blueberries (32 observations): min. €7.12/kg - max. €29.90/kg - average €15.58/kg
  • Blackberries (10 observations): min. €12.45/kg - max. €19.60/kg - average €15.51/kg
  • Red Currants (7 observations): min. €11.92/kg - max. €25.20/kg - average €16.26/kg
  • Tris Mix (1 observation): €18.60/kg
  • Total (62 observations): min. €7.12/kg - max. €29.90/kg - average €17.14/kg

Brands

In the visited stores, a total of 12 brands of small fruits were present. The brand with the highest average prices in the category was Pam. The brand with the lowest average prices for blueberries was Sunberry, followed by Spreafico.

Packaging

The formats are small, ranging from 125 to 200 grams: 44% of the items are sold in packages with a net weight of 125 grams.
