Peru, Sekoya Pop dominates the ranking of the most exported varieties in the 2024/25 season

Proarandanos, the Peruvian association of blueberry exporters, has recently published export data for Peruvian blueberries, broken down by destination and variety, based on data collected up to week 33 of the 2024-25 campaign. Each destination presents a unique mix of varieties and volumes, reflecting market preferences and the country's export strategy.

The ranking is dominated by Sekoya POP (19%), Ventura (15%) and Biloxi (14%); these three varieties account for nearly half of the total volume exported by Peru so far in the current season.

The United Kingdom is one of the main destinations for Peruvian blueberries, with a total volume of 738 tons up to week 33. Among the varieties exported:

  • Ventura dominates the market with 181 tons.
  • Rocio follows with 147 tons.
  • The variety FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) recorded 122 tons.
  • Ridley 1602 (Eureka Sunrise) and HT-73 (BB14-232PT-2) (Milagro) close with 89 and 46 tons respectively.
  • Other varieties totaled 153 tons.

Exports to China

China represents the most significant market, with a total of 2,183 tons exported. The most requested varieties are:

  • FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) reaching an impressive 874 tons.
  • Biloxi is the second most popular variety with 477 tons.
  • ARANA with 310 tons.
  • Emerald contributes with 226 tons.
  • FCM12-097 (Sekoya Beauty) stands at 214 tons.
  • Other varieties make up the remainder of the market with 1,082 tons.

Exports to Europe

The European market has imported a total of 2,643 tons. The leading varieties are:

  • Ventura with 843 tons, the main variety in this region.
  • Biloxi with 624 tons.
  • FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) provided 242 tons.
  • Arana with 200 tons.
  • Ridley (Eureka Sunrise) is less prevalent with 94 tons.
  • Other varieties contributed 640 tons.

Exports to the United States

The United States represents another major market, with a total of 5,596 tons exported. The main varieties are:

  • FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) leads the market with 1,276 tons.
  • Ventura is very competitive with 968 tons.
  • Biloxi follows with 771 tons.
  • Ridley 160 (Eureka Sunrise) and Ridley 1403 (Eureka) recorded 714 and 655 tons respectively.
  • Other varieties make up the bulk of exports with 2,212 tons.

In summary, Peru continues to consolidate its position as a global leader in blueberry exports, diversifying its offer based on the preferences of each market and maximizing the value of its exports. The variety FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) emerges as the most exported, followed by Ventura and Biloxi.

The FCM14-052 (Sekoya Pop) variety emerges as one of the most exported, with a dominant presence in several markets:

  • United States: it is the main destination market, with 1,276 tons.
  • China: follows with 874 tons, highlighting strong demand in Asia.
  • Europe: recorded 242 tons, indicating a significant presence in the European market as well.
  • United Kingdom: the variety reached 122 tons, consolidating its presence in this market as well.

Ventura

Ventura is another standout variety, with wide global distribution:

  • United States: the variety exported 968 tons, positioning itself as one of the favorites in this market.
  • Europe: with 843 tons, Ventura shows excellent performance in the old continent.
  • United Kingdom: reached 181 tons, indicating good reception.
  • In China, however, Ventura is not among the top exported varieties.

Biloxi

Biloxi is also among the most exported blueberry varieties from Peru:

  • United States: exported 771 tons, confirming a strong preference in the American market.
  • Europe: registered 624 tons, positioning itself among the most exported varieties in this region.
  • China: here, Biloxi reached 477 tons, showing good adaptability to Asian markets as well.

Arana

The Arana variety has had good success, especially in European and Chinese markets:

  • In China, Arana represented 310 tons, indicating good demand in Asia.
  • Europe: with 200 tons, the variety shows a significant presence in this market.
  • In the United States and the United Kingdom, Arana is not among the main varieties.

Ridley (Eureka Sunrise)

The Ridley variety (also known as Eureka Sunrise) has shown a more contained performance compared to other varieties, but still relevant:

  • United States: exported 714 tons of Ridley 160 and 655 tons of Ridley 1403 (Eureka).
  • Europe: registered 94 tons, signaling a lower presence compared to other varieties.
  • United Kingdom: with 89 tons, the variety maintains a presence, albeit less marked.

HT-73 (BB14-232PT-2) (Milagro)

This is an emerging variety with still limited but promising volumes; in the United Kingdom: with 46 tons, the variety has started to make its way into the British market. Other markets have not yet adopted this variety significantly, but it could represent a potential area for future growth.
