In today's berry offerings of supermarkets in Brescia (Italy), a varied assortment of small fruits emerges, reflecting the diversity of their origins. Blueberries stand out for their abundant presence and competitive prices, coming from both national and international cultivations, with production from Italy, Morocco, Spain, Peru and Chile.
In contrast to the predominance of blueberries, currants have a more modest presence on the shelves. At the same time, raspberries are characterised by rather high prices, which could influence consumer choice.
The general quality of the assortments remains at an acceptable standard, with peaks of quality excellence especially in the case of strawberries.
The survey was conducted on 03/04/2024 in the area of Brescia (Italy) on 19 shops owned by 19 retailers belonging to 17 retailing groups.
The full berry range of the following retailers has been surveyed: Aldi, Bennet, Carrefour Market, Conad Superstore, Coop, Dpiù, Esselunga, Eurospin, Famila Superstore, In's, Ipercoop, Italmark, Lidl, MD, Migross, Penny, Prix, Rossetto, Sigma.
