BerryWorld and Tropic Cool have joined forces to establish Rwanda Berries, a large-scale commercial berry farming project in Rwanda aimed at supplying fresh raspberries and blueberries to markets in the Middle East, Europe, and Central Asia. The initiative is led by Tropic Cool Israel, with BerryWorld as its strategic distribution partner.
Thanks to its favorable climate and strategic location, Rwanda offers an ideal production window that complements existing supply periods from Southern Africa and South America. Over the next five years, Rwanda Berries plans to develop 150 hectares of farmland and generate over 1,200 new jobs, significantly boosting local employment and rural development.
Licensing of premium berry varieties
The agreement also includes the potential licensing of premium berry varieties such as the award-winning Diamond Jubilee raspberries (BerryWorld Plus), Eureka Sunrise blueberries (Mountain Blue Orchards), and Sekoya blueberries (Fall Creek). BerryWorld will support the venture with technical expertise and will manage the distribution of the produce through its global network.
Avi Drori, CEO of Tropic Cool, expressed strong enthusiasm for creating a new export-oriented agricultural sector in Rwanda. Adrian Olins, CEO of BerryWorld’s Marketing division, emphasized the positive social, environmental, and economic impact of the initiative, highlighting Rwanda Berries as a model for sustainable and competitive agriculture in the region.
