The Technology Transfer Center of the Edmund Mach Foundation is organizing the 11th edition of the Berry Technical Day, a key event for producers, researchers, and industry technicians. The meeting will take place in person at the FEM Conference Hall in Vigalzano, Casalino di Pergine Valsugana (TN), with the option to follow the live stream on the Edmund Mach Foundation's YouTube channel.
An opportunity to delve into key industry topics
The technical day represents a unique opportunity to stay updated on the latest innovations and management strategies for the main phytosanitary issues affecting berry production. Among the topics covered, special attention will be given to Drosophila suzukii, an invasive insect threatening crop productivity, as well as biological and innovative control techniques. Additionally, the results of six years of research on the strawberry weevil, one of the main threats for strawberry growers, will be presented.
Event program
The event will begin at 1:30 PM with participant registration, followed by the opening remarks at 2:00 PM. The program includes a series of presentations by experts from the Edmund Mach Foundation and the Laimburg Research Center, who will illustrate the latest research in agronomy and entomology.
Here are the main topics covered:
- Seasonal ecology of Drosophila suzukii and evaluation of an attract-and-kill technique (Alberto Grassi, Simone Puppato – FEM)
- Biological control of Drosophila suzukii: updates and future perspectives (Marco Valerio Rossi Stacconi and team – FEM, University of Trento)
- Strawberry weevil: evidence from six years of research (Lorenzo Tonina and team – FEM)
- Monitoring and control methods of the strawberry weevil in South Tyrol (Urban Spitaler and team – Laimburg Research Center)
- Research activities in strawberry cultivation at the Laimburg Research Center (Sebastian Soppelsa and team – Laimburg Research Center)
- Quality preservation: innovative strategies for berries (Brian Farneti and team – FEM)
The event will conclude with an interactive debate at 4:45 PM, during which participants can ask questions to the experts via WhatsApp or SMS. The closing of the day is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
