The survey was conducted on August 13, 2024, in the urban area of Verona (Italy) and involved 15 stores representing 15 brands belonging to 13 retail groups.
The assortments of the following brands were recorded: Aldi, Conad, Esselunga, Eurospar, Eurospin, Famila, Galassia, iN's, Lidl, Martinelli, MD, Migross, Prix, Rossetto, Spazio Conad.
In Verona, the shelves are stocked, the product is available in all stores, the quality is inconsistent but mainly poor, and there are few fresh batches from this week, possibly due to the holidays.
Generally, a low level of sales is observed, with small package sizes and generally low prices: it is rare to see prices exceed €2 for all references, except for raspberries, which remain expensive, of particularly poor quality, and poorly assorted.
Assortment
In the berries category, the stores visited had between 1 and 7 references, with an average of 3.6 references per store.
In the 15 stores visited where a berry assortment was present:
- 67% carried Raspberries
- 100% carried Blueberries
- 67% carried Blackberries
- 27% carried Red Currants
- 33% carried Mixed Berries
Range Breadth
- 13% of the stores with a berry assortment had only one reference for sale.
- 33% of the stores with a berry assortment had 2 or 3 references for sale.
- 53% of the stores with a berry assortment had 4 or more references for sale.
Quality
The groups with the best quality were found to be Eurospin and MD.

The brand with the lowest average prices for blueberries was Aldi.
