The survey took place on April 16, 2024, in the urban area of Florence (Italy) and involved 14 retail outlets belonging to 14 brands owned by 11 retail groups.
In the context of retail distribution in Florence, the offering of small fruits represents an important point of interest for consumers. A detailed analysis of the current assortment reveals significant variations in prices and quality among different types of fruits available on the market.
Among the most popular small fruits, blueberries and blackberries stand out for their competitive prices. However, it is important to note that blueberries still predominantly come from Peru, suggesting a significant dependency on imports. Despite the foreign origin, prices remain affordable for local consumers, likely encouraging consistent demand.
In contrast to blueberries and blackberries, raspberry prices are still considerably high in the Florentine market. This could be attributed to a combination of factors, including seasonality and limited availability. However, the most significant issue seems to be the often inconsistent quality of raspberries offered.
