The berry industry is thriving and poised for continued growth in the years ahead.

That was the key message shared with over 200 industry leaders who gathered on Wednesday at Rotterdam’s Ahoy Centre for the Fruitnet Berry Congress.

Attendees learned that berries are outperforming all other fresh produce categories. With consumer confidence and spending on the rise—and advancements in genetics enhancing quality and consistency—the future looks promising.

One of the main takeaways was the urgent need to improve consumer communication about the health benefits of eating berries regularly. Younger consumers, in particular, should be targeted with campaigns that align with the booming wellness trend.

Innovation in varietals is also driving premiumisation, as shoppers show they’re willing to pay more for top-quality berries in attractive packaging.

Driscoll’s, Hortifrut, Camposol, Sekoya, Früchte Widmann, Berries South Africa, Angus Soft Fruits, GroentenFruit Huis, Unitec, Rabobank, and Coöperatie Hoogstraten were among the companies and associations offering exclusive insights into sustainable growth strategies.

Meanwhile, Neolithics, Dogtooth Technologies, BG Door, and Agriplace showcased cutting-edge technologies designed to further improve berry production and quality.
