Solutions for climate adaption: a report by Jorge Esquivel Manterola

Jorge Esquivel Manterola, director of Blueberries Consulting, will be one of the speakers at the Symposium that will open the three-day International Blueberry Days in Rimini on May 3, 2023. He will specifically address the topic ofadaptation of blueberry plants to different and new soil and climate conditions.

Monterola is an Engr. Agr. M.Sc. at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a fruit grower and international consultant to major companies in major producing countries blueberries. As an agricultural entrepreneur, he has cultivated and exported blueberries for more than 15 years in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He has extensive experience in managing southern highbush cultivars of blueberries such as: Emerald, Ventura, Springhigh, Farthing, Snowchaser, Primadonna, Flicker, Mayra, Kirra, Stella Blue, Arana, Eureka Ridley, Eureka Sunrise, Eureka Sunset, Eureka Gold, First Blush, Megacrisp, Megaearly, Keecrisp, Avanti, among others.

He has solid knowledge in fertigation, soil chemistry and plant nutrition, as well as extensive mastery of various management practices, such as: pruning, soil and hydroponic (pot) cultivation, and protected agriculture. This experience has been gained in different production regions and under different edaphic and climatic conditions.

He is director of Blueberries Consulting, an international firm with more than 12 years of experience in the fruit sector, with offices in Chile, Peru, Mexico and Spain.
