Blueberry demand rising in USA, Europe and Asia: Peru leads exports, Morocco and China gain ground

44

Global blueberry consumption continues to rise, especially in key markets like the United States, where household penetration still has room for growth. Demand is increasingly outpacing that of other fruits, with snacking emerging as a strong growth driver.

Peru’s rapid export expansion has opened the market to new players, although the sector remains fragmented. Initial signs of consolidation suggest a strategic shift toward scalability, integration, and year-round supply.

Global supply expands

Global supply is expanding and diversifying, with Peru maintaining leadership while Morocco quickly gains ground. The U.S. production remains stable, Canada is leveling off, and Mexico is under pressure to improve cost efficiency.

Europe faces labor and regulatory challenges, while South America invests in varietal innovation. China, the largest producer, is now starting to export. Overall, competitiveness will increasingly depend on scale, genetics, and logistics in an integrated global landscape.
