Berries in Trieste: lower availability and rising prices, especially for raspberries and blueberries

5

The survey conducted by the Berry Observatory in Trieste reveals a market in transition, characterized by limited availability and rising prices. Lower supply is affecting the entire category, with particularly noticeable price increases for raspberries, as well as blueberries. For the latter, Peruvian product is beginning to appear more frequently, alongside the last supplies from Romania, Italy and Poland, which are now reaching the end of their season.

Raspberries are mainly of Italian and Polish origin and are showing high prices. The same trend applies to blackberries: mainly Italian and, in some cases, Portuguese, they are also recording rising prices.

Redcurrant prices are also increasing. Shelf space dedicated to the category remains limited, but the products surveyed generally appear fresh and of good quality, with a few exceptions.

There are numerous brands on the shelves, a typical feature of a transition phase between different origins, when availability is more limited. Among the most frequently found brands are Garden Frutta and Sant’Orsola.

This is the summary of the survey conducted today, 2 September 2026, in the urban area of Trieste, covering 17 stores from 17 retail chains belonging to 12 large-scale retail (GDO) groups.

Assortments were surveyed at stores belonging to the following retail chains: Aldi, Cadoro, Conad, Conad City, Coop, Crai, Despar, Dpiù, Eurospar, Eurospin, Famila, IN's, Ipercoop, Lidl, Maxì, MD, Pam.
