Ava Berries, part of the British berry specialists Angus Soft Fruits, celebrates the success of its strawberry varieties Ava Alicia (asf733.01) and Ava Catalina (asf624.01), which have been well received by growers, retailers, and consumers.

Developed through the Ava Berries Breeding Programme, led by breeding director Lucy Wilkins, these premium strawberries offer exceptional fruit quality, resilience, and outstanding flavor.

Wilkins expressed pride in the varieties’ performance, highlighting their disease tolerance, high yield consistency, and superior fruit traits, making them a top choice for growers and retailers.

Field trials in Spain have confirmed their ability to thrive in Mediterranean climates, ensuring a reliable winter supply. Growers benefit from an ideal balance of early production, high yields, and extended shelf life, reducing costs while maintaining consistent quality.

For retailers, these varieties offer the opportunity to provide attractive, flavorful strawberries throughout the UK and European winter seasons. Their excellent post-harvest durability and transport resilience ensure superior fruit quality from farm to shelf, minimizing waste.

Angus Soft Fruits identified a gap in the premium winter strawberry market, prompting Ava Berries’ breeding team to develop genetics replicating the taste, appearance, and durability of summer strawberries.

David Buxcey, Sales Director of Angus Soft Fruits, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality berries year-round, noting the overwhelmingly positive reception from customers and retailers. The company plans to expand production to meet growing demand across the UK and Europe.

Ava Berries continues to push the boundaries of berry innovation, ensuring that growers, retailers, and consumers benefit from premium strawberries that exceed expectations.

Angus Soft Fruits will showcase Ava Berries at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, offering visitors a chance to taste their top strawberry varieties, along with a special treat—Ava Alicia strawberry ice cream.
