The small fruit retail assortment in Genoa this week revealed a serious shortage of redcurrants, present in only three out of the 18 shops visited.
Quality was generally unsatisfactory across the whole range, with lots that had been on the shelves since early February.
Prices were down for blueberries, which are often offered on promotion in the 500 g format with Chile.
In contrast, retail prices for blackberries and raspberries held up.
The survey was conducted on 13/02/2024 in the area of Genova on 18 shops owned by 18 retailers belonging to 15 retailing groups.
The full berry range of the following retailers has been surveyed: Basko, Carrefour Express, Carrefour Market, Conad, Coop, Despar, Dpiù, Ekom, Esselunga, Eurospin, IN's, Lidl, MD, Pam, Pam local, Penny.
