Global berry breeder Planasa celebrated its 50th anniversary, deeming it a historic moment. Despite global uncertainties, the company expects to surpass €70 million in EBITDA for the fiscal year, with over €10 million invested in R&D. In a transformative year, Planasa made progress toward its goal of becoming a global leader in the year-round berry sector.

Notable achievements include the establishment of an R&D center in Mexico and acquiring Meiming to bolster its presence in China's blueberry industry. CEO Michael Brinkmann highlighted operational improvements, international expansion, and the launch of innovative varieties.

In September, Cinven, Planasa's owner, sold the company to EW Group, a German family-owned life sciences company. Both share common innovative and environmental values, aiming to contribute to global food needs.

Founded in 1973, Planasa evolved from breeding strawberries and asparagus to leading R&D programs for blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Expanding to the US and Mexico in 2010, it's now a global agri-food leader with 225 varieties, operating in 25 countries, and 4,000+ employees.

Planasa aims to balance technological transformation and sustainability, developing year-round varieties adapted to diverse climates with lower resource needs. The company recognizes its team's contribution and attributes growth to innovation and sustainability, envisioning a future where technology and sustainable practices meet global food demands.
