Domestic berries dominate the Italian wholesale markets

It's Trentino Time for Strawberries

The most demanded strawberries are priced between €7 and €9 per kg. From Trentino, raspberries are priced between €15 and €20 per kg, while blueberries range from €10 to €14 per kg. Red currants of Italian origin average over €20 per kg, reaching up to €24 per kg.

In Bergamo Trentino, in Cagliari Venetian Hill Strawberries

Federico Fapanni of Ortobergamo operates in the Lombardy market, handling strawberries and berries all year round. He confirms the prevalent origin of the product. "I currently source from a small company, Martino del Trentino. They cultivate both in the plains and at higher altitudes, where production is now coming from the more resistant areas. The price is €16 for a 2 kg crate. From Trentino, I also buy small quantities of raspberries at €16 per kg, and blueberries at €12 per kg." In Sardinia, Venetian hill strawberries are arriving. "There aren't large quantities," explains entrepreneur and wholesaler Cenzo Pisano, "but the demand is good, partly due to a favorable tourist season. The price is €18 for a 2 kg crate." In the Sestu market, a few kilometers from Cagliari, mixed forest berries, including some of Spanish origin, are priced at €16.50 to €17.50 per kg.

Raspberry Prices Rise

Raspberry prices are increasing during a period of fragility, ranging from €0.50 to over €2 per kg depending on the market and product quality, predominantly of Italian origin in trays. Here are some price observations: Verona (€19 per kg), Rome (€15), Padua (€22.50), Florence (€19), Bologna (€18).

Italian Blueberries from €10 to €15 per kg

The wide price range of blueberries is determined by product quality. An average price ranges from €10 to €15 per kg. In individual markets: Bologna (€16 per kg), Florence (€13), Padua (€8.50), Rome (€14), Verona (€9), Bergamo (€13).

Italian Blackberries: from €10 to €16 per kg

The predominant origin of blackberries is Italian, with a price range between €10 and €15 per kg. Market prices: Bergamo (€11 per kg), Cesena (€16), Florence (€14.50), Rimini (€14), Treviso (€12.50), Verona (€11).

Red Currants Well Above €20, Reaching Nearly €30

Italian-origin red currants also have a wide price range, but prices are well above €20 per kg. Market prices: Bergamo (€27 per kg), Cesena (€22), Florence (€18), Rimini (€20.5), Treviso (€26), Bologna, Padua, and Rome (€20).

It's Time for Trentino Strawberries

Trentino strawberries in trays are present in all markets, with fairly homogeneous pricing. Prices range from €6, but mostly from €7 to €8, with peaks of €9/10 per kg for extra quality. There are also various national origins with prices ranging from €3.50 to €7 per kg. In short, Trentino prices do not fall below €6, except in the production market of Bolzano, where prices can be slightly below €5 per kg. In Florence, wild strawberries are priced at €24/25 per kg. Market prices for Trentino strawberries: Bergamo (€8 per kg), Bologna (€7), Florence (€7.50), Rimini (€8.50), Rome (€7).
